Image optimisation
When adding optimised images to the page, consider the following four key elements:
-
Unless you are uploading a video or hero image, regular images should be no more than 300kB. Downloading from platforms like Shutterstock allows automatic size selection. Alternatively, resize images to the required dimensions to improve page load times and SEO.
-
Resize images to something between 1000 - 1600px width. Something like 5000px is too big and can result in a much higher file size. This is the case for many of the current JLT images.
On Mac, open your image, go to Tools → Adjust Size.Change the Width to be between 1000 - 1600px. 1600px may still result in a file size >300, in which case, decrease the width pixels.
-
Use hyphens to separate words in the filename. This filename can mirror the alt text, that way, it will be much easier to find these files on HubSpot or someone might delete it by accident if they don't know what it's for.
Google uses alt text to interpret images. This alt text should be concise (around 100 characters or less) and should describe the content of the image.
